Each year, teams of elite cyclists from all over the world participate in the Amgen Tour of California, an 8-day event that starts in Santa Rosa and snakes its way south to Los Angeles on a challenging course that includes nearly 800 miles of scenic California highways and roadways. This year’s event kicks off on May 13th, and cyclists (as well as cycling enthusiasts) throughout Los Angeles eagerly await the race’s arrival in LA. The final stage of the race hits Los Angeles on May 20th, with a 42.6 mile long route that starts in Beverly Hills and ends at LA Live.
We may not all be professional cyclists, but we do all have the chance to feel like one–from 8-9:30 on the day of the race, anyone with a bicycle will be allowed to take advantage of the street closures and ride along a 5-mile portion of the race course. Entry is free, but you do have to register here.
No bike? No problem! Event organizer Anschutz Entertainment Group, together with Los Angeles Downtown News, is giving away a Felt Bike to one lucky winner to be determined on May 21st. You can enter (for free!) through May 20th on the Amgen site. The winner can choose either a men’s or women’s Felt bike valued at $349. So if all this talk of cycling has inspired you to get rolling, check out the site and enter the sweepstakes! And don’t forget to come cheer on the pros as they race through LA on the 20th.
